Result: Draw
The first playable game of the season began well. The weather was hot, we won the toss and our openers batted freely against ordinary bowling. Stuart and Paul laid a superb foundation of 107 runs in 86 minutes. It wasn't a chance-less display, granted, but they scored fast and took advantage of a friendly short boundary, early season fielding and a poor old man with a wooden leg. It wasn't actually wooden but he was not very mobile. Paul scored 59 (50-86 mins), before dragging the ball onto his stumps. Stuart (50-94mins) scored well both sides of the wicket and slowed down in the nineties, as if he was counting in his head, running 7 singles until a four took him to his first hundred (128 mins) for the Prims. Driving a shot to long-off, he was dismissed with a good catch. Alan also batted well giving no chances but just missed on a nice little not out.
206 to win was a bit much for a team in our class of cricket, even on a short boundary. The opening Barnes batsmen were understandably cautious against Simon and Stuart who both bowled with good pace and line conceding only 39 in the first 16 overs. Price was caught (on 0) early hooking a beamer, from his face, by Paul and left the field of play. The umpires did not call a no ball but in the spirit of the game he was called back by the players as a whole. He went on to score 51 and was run out attempting a crafty 2. With James fielding and Ben at the stumps there was never two. Wickets fell regularly, and it came to the last over with Prims needing two wickets and Barnes needing 66 runs. Stuart came back on and all four results suddenly became possible. 1 four, 2 wides, 1 wicket, 4 dot balls later and the game was drawn. Stuart won the MOTM award for 100 and 9-0-32-4. JJD
