Match Drawn

Toss 2. 10pm Seed won toss and decided to bat
2.15pm. Barnes openers make a steady start having been told by Seed to "defend". Webster eventually falls to a sharp slip catch and Hogg eventually followed hitting a wide long hop straight down covers throat Price then played the most fluent innings of the Barnes Occasionals summer. He fell for a rapid, though unhurried 77. The rest of the Barnes batting perished following Seed's instructions to "hit out or get out". The exception was Dunlop who disagreed with Seed's over-attacking policy. Dunlop made a slow 12 not out. Seed batting at no 11 made a quick 5 not out then declared 15 minutes early with 150 on the board. An early tea was taken and Seed received several negative comments from team-mates, particularly Charman. The opinion was that Barnes did not have enough runs to declare.

While urinating in the toilet Seed saw Haddow (scorer) arrive next to him. A broad grinned Hladdow said "On your head be it if we lose". Haddow clearly was hoping Barnes would lose so he could enjoy the team vilification of Seed.
Seed opened the attack with Dunlop and Flower and Barnes had the extra 15 minutes at their disposal. Both opening bowlers were unlucky to be wicketless but gave runs away at less than one and a half per over. Barnes first wicket occurred when a weak off-side push went tbrough Hanmer at mid-off. An angry Seed ran past Hanmer shouting "For Gods sake pull yourself together Frank". Seed retrieved the ball threw into the non-striking end and Flower took the bails off to run out an Opener. A ecstatic Seed ran over to Hanmer and said "Your incompetence caused that run-out. Well played". The second opener fell to an outrageously quick piece of fielding by Price. Seed came on to bowl and got two quick wickets and then a game of cat and mouse started between Seed and the opposing batsmen. Seed brought on Hogg (A) to bowl. This started a series of loud, inappropriate comments from Haddow on the close boundary. Showing he had no understanding of the tactical nature of the game he started his commentary' by laughing at the announcement of Hlog's name then bellowing "'You're really scraping the barrel Keith". Hogg took two quick wickets. When obtaining his second Hogg gesticulated rudely at Haddow. At the other end Lawrence bowled well. He was, crucially unlucky against the Richmond wicket-keeper/ batsman. A high spinning catch spilled by Charman and two very good lbws turned down by a young umpire. When the Richmond batsman ran for an illegal run Seed questioned the umpire politely as to the legitimacy of the run. As the fascinating chess/cricket game continued Webster spilled an Exorcet paced chance at slip off Dunlop. With 11 balls left Richmond needed 33 to win and Barnes needed 2 wickets. The Richmond wicket/batsman continued to have fortune on his side playing and missing at Flower. The game ended in a draw. As a disappointed Seed left the pitch Charman shouted at him "You should have declared earlier". Seed, in fact agreed, and also wondered if he should have "given" Richmond 25 runs at the 15 overs to go stage. The obvious mechanism for that would have been to give Hanmer one over.
